The mongols are a pain in the ar5e. they are tough fast and slightly less returded than the other AI factions in the game but still a little "special". This mod is fantastic. An exellent expansion on the original 3rd age mod that provides endless replay value and that in-depth LOTR strategy that nobody else comes close to. I was a fan of the official "battle for middle earth" games by EA, I enjoyed them alot. This mod is everything that those games should have been and more.
Cities lack good units and most factions dont get any cav out of them (exept merchent cav, but that reqeuires the merchent guild). Castles lack income meaning an empire consisting of castles will pretty much always be bankrupt.
Anonymous: You need to run unpacker first (it's in Medieval II Total War\tools\unpacker). After you unpacke you must detele Medieval II Total War\data\descr_geography_new.txt and Medieval II Total War\data\descr_geography_new.db files or the game will not run. Full path is Medieval II Total War\data\descr_faction_standing.txt after unpacking.
The "worst" faction to play as in the total war franchise in my opinion would have to be playing as The Pirates in Darthmod Empire. You have about 3 units to choose from, you start off broke as a joke in the middle of nowhere with the British and Spanish navies close by. PLUS every single faction is already and will remain at war with you. Pro tip 1: Longbows can erect wooden pikes during pre-battle phase. Use these against France and the Mongols/Timurids, and every bridge defense. IMO the best strategy for England is to blitz Scotland and take Edinburgh before The Pope excommunicates you. In your first turns, construct roads and small farms in every settlement, take York, and DN7whG.
