Most regulatory signs are circular. A red ring/circle indicates a prohibition, while a blue circle generally gives a mandatory instruction. There are two exceptions to the rule, the "STOP" sign and "GIVE WAY" sign. The "STOP" sign looks and works exactly the same as the one used in the U.S; you must stop before the sign and road markings:
